 A white woman introduces her brother to a black woman who is a friend and co-worker. They soon fall in love and want to marry but are concerned about the effects of an interracial spouse on each otherís careers. They are mostly worried about gaining the approval of the manís parents for without that they will not marry. His parents are told by the sister that he is seeing someone and that itís getting serious but are not told that sheís black. When the parents finally meet her and discover to their horror that she is black they wonít accept her and try to convince their son to break off the relationship and find a suitable white woman to marry. The couple, now lovers, are completely committed to each other but are forced to live in the shadows unless he can get his parents to accept the woman that he loves. This is the story of how they deal with his parents and other issues and the near tragedy that affects their lives.
