Sex, drugs and rock and roll. What more does a novel need?

Be prepared to take a trip when reading When Life Was Like a Cucumber by Greg Wyss. This trip will be unlike any one you have ever taken before. That is unless you were in your 20s, living in the late 1960s and early 1970s on the East coast, more

 Young Adult

Sixteen-year-old Cat Townsend was jarred awake by an unknown black man sitting on the edge of her bed. Without saying a word, the middle-aged man with shoulder-length dreadlocks and flawless skin reached for her hand. His touch was at once shocking but reassuring.  Their eyes locked as he smiled, showing large, bright teeth. She should have been afraid.  But she wasn’t.

And then he simply disappeared.

Cat rubbed her eyes not knowing if the man was a dream.  For in that undefined place between asleep and awake, the moment felt hazy and surreal. She sat up in the darkness as a chill ran down her spine. Something inside her knew this moment was both significant and life altering.

She glanced at the time.  It was 2:32 a.m.

An addicting Djinn novel complete with romance, danger and something a little different...

From start to finish it was tough to put down.  If there had been a second book to go out and purchase, I would have done it right away. This author draws you in with the characters and tightly woven storyline.  Cat, a teenager who has moved around a lot, starts the story off.  She has a dream the night before school starts and in it is Todd, an old heartthrob. In the same dream is another man with blue eyes and captivating voice who seems familiar.  Cat has flashbacks and glimpses of the future in this dream and then wakes up to find a black man sitting there, he smiles, and then disappears.  You know something out of the ordinary is about to happen.  The clock reads 2:32 A.M.

When Cat heads to school the next day with her brothers, she sees Todd in the flesh.  The budding love resumes between Todd and Cat and is a sweet teenage romance…at the beginning.  We are pulled into strange dreams and premonitions. Who is the blue-eyed dream lover and people that she has seen throughout her life both in her dreams and reality but never met?
The book became hard to put down when Cat started meeting the people from her dreams in real life.  The lines start to blur and danger is everywhere.  Cat meets Finnegan who changes her world forever.  She must choose between the life she knows and a life that she may learn to live.  She is torn between this choice and the two men who she must choose between.  She makes her choice but does that now put her in more danger?
Emily Ford writes an addicting novel, 2:32 A.M. (The Djinn Master’s Legacy).  I can hardly wait to read the next one!
