| Review 1: |
It is always a pleasure to come across a quality fantasy novel and Dark Solus: An Assassin’s Tale by David Andrew Crawford is an entertaining read. This is one of those fantasy books that leave you thinking and visualizing about it well after you are done. The author weaves a tale that grabs your attention and holds it the entire way through. Simply put, the story is about a child, Dark Solus, who experiences the life-changing trauma of his parent's murders at a young age. He becomes an assassin to exact revenge. The story takes the reader through the life of Dark Solus as he is growing up with his grandfather raising him. He struggles with the driving force of retribution shaping his decisions. Dark Solus becomes a strong personality because of this drive and the conflict between him and his grandfather will have readers empathizing with both characters' point of view.
Crawford has an amazing imagination and it was obvious that he took considerable time and thought to write his first novel. The story is rich in detail with a quality storyline and excellent character development. The dialogue between the characters flowed well throughout most of the novel. There are fantastic action sequences throughout and enough sorcery and mystery to satisfy any fantasy buff.
Readers are left with a solid ending and will have to wait with anticipation for the sequel to find out what happens in the next chapter of Dark Solus, the assassin. |

Bio: |
David Andrew Crawford was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada in 1969, the only son of Lewis and Martha Crawford. When he was three, he and his two older sisters, Michele and Stacy, moved to Ottawa, Ontario and when he was eight, the whole family moved to Wendover, Ontario where he spent most of his childhood. David attended grammar and high school in the small village of Plantagenet and graduated in the year 1987. While in high school his love for all sports grew as he excelled at almost every sport, winning many awards in baseball, basketball and volleyball just to name a few. When he was seventeen, he severely broke his ankle from which he was never able to recover, stopping him from any possible chance to attend any schools in the United States on a sports scholarship. He went on to study psychology at Carleton University and then went in pursuit of a degree on Computer Science at Algonquin College until finally settling on web designing and development as a career choice. In 2005 he started his own web design company named Neotenic Design Inc., a business he started with a fellow student and friend from the same school. It was at this time his father passed away and David delved back into one of his passions, reading fantasy novels, to help take his mind off the loss of his father. Several years had passed and in a passing conversation with his mother, he was urged to write a story about a character he had made as a child playing Dungeons and Dragons. Not thinking he would ever get published, David wrote a single chapter and sent it off to five different publishing companies he found on the internet. Four out of the five offered him a publishing contract and he settled on Eloquent Books and on February 7, 2011 his Book, Dark Solus: An Assassin’s Tale, was released.
