Age of the alliance: Lucan is a short story following the life of someone who shifts gears from being a high flying political negotiator for a global governmental framework to an artifact examiner. He re-adjusts to this new life hoping to leave his disappointment of being made redundant by the alliance. The world around him is changing at an accelerated pace. His best friend from university makes the choice to pursue a diametrically opposite life and join a mission taking him far away. In a chance encounter sometime later Lucan is sought by the alliance once again to find his long lost friend and embark on a mission much to his chagrin. He soon finds out more about his friend and his background and the intent of the mission. The alliance has a number of rescue and research missions but this one is different. The previous mission had unearthed some information that could possibly be a big discovery. The commander responsible for the earlier missions also has a vested interest in initiating the mission. Lucan has to take some decisions and fast. At first seemingly daunting, Lucan has to step in to help the people involved. He will have to open his mind to new possibilities, travel alone and leave his comfortable existence far behind in search of something that seems unreal.
